Although the keeping of wild animals in circuses has been banned in Peru, some defy the law. Wild animals are kept under unreasonable conditions. Puma Mufasa was one of them and lived at a Peruvian circus for twenty years. There he spent an undignified, dreary existence, chained to a pick-up truck. The savior of the animal protection organization "Animal Defenders International "stood up for his freedom and cornered the circus, so that Mufasa had to be freed from the chains.
Since he could not be released into real freedom, the animal rights activists built the enclosure for the puma in its natural environment in the Peruvian forest. Here he should spend his retirement as close to nature as possible. Very sad: Mufasa died a few months after his liberation - in December 2015. The time in the circus seriously harmed his health. Mufasa had kidney problems and age-related factors certainly played a role. Let us hope that Mufasa will find its final resting place in a nicer place!
